Playing this weekend; weekend auditions

‘Tis the season! Your choices for the weekend’s theatrical entertainments include:

There’s also a bumper crop of (mostly) seasonal productions opening this weekend:

  • Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity, presented by the Aldridge Repertory Theatre, plays at the historic Carver Theatre this weekend only.
  • The Park Players production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever begins its two-week run.
  • Red Mountain Theatre’s Holidaze revue kicks off a two-week run in their downtown Cabaret space. (Read the inspiring story of featured performer Davis Haines’ return to the stage here on al.com).
  • VST Productions opens their musical adaptation of Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory at the Virginia Samford Theatre.
  • South City Theatre presents Greetings!in the first weekend of its two-week run.
  • Friday night, ACTA Theatre debuts The Homecoming-not the Pinter play, but a theatrical adaptation of the holiday tale that evolved into television’s The Waltons.
  • And with something decidedly different from the rest of the holiday fare, Theatre Downtown presents Abraham Lincoln’s Big Gay Dance Party. Tomorrow’s opening night is HOBO night, which means admission is pay-what-you-can-afford.

And for those who prefer enjoying their theatre from the onstage perspective, Park Players will hold auditions for Barefoot in the Park this Saturday, and City Equity Theatre will hold combined auditions for the remainder of its Pulitzer-winning season: Ruined, by Lynn Nottage, and August: Osage County (details online and on Facebook).

Auditions update: TDT, CET

If you missed auditions for Theatre Downtown’s upcoming original production, Must Come Downplaywright/director Billy Ray Brewton will be scheduling a second round next week specifically to fill a few younger roles in the cast:

  • NICOLAS (16-28) - jock type
  • CHARLOTTE (16-28) - a total bitch
  • TERESA (16-28) - trendy blogger
  • GERT (16-28) - a kitsch tornado

Email TDT with your interest.

City Equity Theatre has amended its announcement for its upcoming Ruined and August: Osage County auditions.

  1. The original listing designated the nights of Wednesday and Thursday, 12/12 & 13, for callbacks; instead, they will be held the nights of Tuesday and Thursday, 12/11 and 12/13.
  2. The original listing suggested that only those interested in the role of
    Sophie
need consider preparing a musical audition; a musical selection will also be required for consideration for the role of
    Mama Nadi.
  3. There have been some questions regarding the posted audition sides. We ask that come prepared with two contrasting pieces: one in the vein of the character for which you’re auditioning, and one contrasting piece that shows your best work. The selected sides are offered as choices, but choosing one in no way limits your consideration to that particular role. Callbacks will consist of reading from the script.

Auditions this weekend at BFT, TDT; sides up for CET

Coming this Saturday:

Also: City Equity Theatre has posted sides from Ruined by Lynn Nottage and August: Osage County for their upcoming combined auditions on Saturday, December 8. Find them here online, or on the CET Facebook page.
